Deel River Flooding case study
Atlantic integrity group were asked by a private client to carry out a case study along there river bank due to flooding which occurred. The Deel river broke its banks in December 2015 with devastating consequences. The case study which carried out a ground survey using high precision GPS and aerial survey using our Unmanned aerial vehicle captured high resolution data. Results were a contour survey of the area along the banks and a Digital surface model which in the future can help the design of flood relief measures. More case studies like this upstream would be useful in identifying possible Natural flood measures which would help alleviate flooding in the near term with community involvement and government support.
In the UK already there has being success with Natural flood management and these techniques include the restoration, enhancement and alteration of natural features and characteristics, but exclude traditional flood defence engineering that works against or disrupts these natural processes.
